The three main ethnic groups in the municipality are:
• Located in the northern part of the municipality, bordering Ndu, Nkambe, and Ako. • The Mfumte people are a subgroup of the Tikari tribe, originally from Adamawa. • The name "Mfumte" means "people living under palm trees". • The Mfumte clan consists of 14 villages.
• Located in the central part of the municipality, south of the Mfumte and north of the Mbaw. • The Yamba were historically called the "Kaka Clan", a name derived from the Nsungli language. • Due to the negative connotation of “Kaka”, the name was changed to Yamba.
• Located in the southern part of the municipality, bordering Mbiame (Bui Division), Adamawa, and the Western Region. • Like the Mfumte and Yamba, the Mbaw people are also part of the Tikari ethnic group. • The Mbaw clan consists of 13 villages.
